Technology Advances Early Disease Detection

AI-Powered Smart Body Monitoring

Neko Health, the digital health startup founded by Daniel Ek, co-founder of Spotify, has raised $700 million in new funding. By combining advanced body scanning, blood tests, and health data analysis, the company aims to transform early disease detection, shifting healthcare from treating illnesses after they appear toward proactive prevention and continuous health monitoring.

Early detection has become one of the biggest priorities in modern healthcare, and advances in artificial intelligence and medical technology are opening new possibilities. Now, a digital health startup is taking this approach further by combining AI with advanced body scanning technology.

Neko Health, founded by Spotify co-founder Daniel Ek and Hjalmar Nilsonne, secured $700 million in its latest funding round. The investment follows a previous $260 million funding round in January 2025, highlighting growing investor interest in AI-driven preventive healthcare.

The company has developed a proprietary body scanning system that combines medical imaging data with blood test results to provide a more comprehensive picture of an individual’s health. The goal is to identify early signs of disease and support doctors in making more accurate and informed decisions.

Beyond general health assessments, the technology now provides information about body composition, including muscle and fat levels. Users can also connect health data from platforms such as Apple Health, allowing physicians to gain deeper insights into lifestyle patterns and physical conditions during evaluations.

Neko Health currently operates in the United Kingdom and Sweden and plans to open its first U.S. center in New York City. The company says more than 100,000 people have already used its scanning services, while more than 350,000 people are currently on waiting lists or reservation programs.

One case that attracted public attention involved Alex Tew, founder of the meditation app Calm. He said a Neko Health scan detected a cancerous mole on his back, allowing him to seek treatment at an early stage.

However, Neko Health is not the only technology company exploring AI-powered health scanning. AI company Midjourney is also reportedly developing a similar body scanning technology, with plans to integrate it into a broader wellness experience involving services such as saunas and hot tubs in San Francisco.

The $700 million investment in Neko Health reflects growing interest among technology investors in the digital health sector. Experts believe that the combination of artificial intelligence, health data, and advanced diagnostic tools could play a major role in reducing healthcare costs and shifting medical systems toward prevention rather than treatment.

This trend may mark the beginning of a new era in healthcare, one in which continuous monitoring of the human body and early identification of potential health risks become a routine part of everyday life.
